THE DAMIANO DEFENCE
White's king's knight attacked Black's KP, deterred 2..Q-R5 and contested Q4(d4) to enable 3.P-Q4.
Black leaves the "Épine Dorsale" with a King's Bishop's Pawn move one square in poor defence of his KP. Named after Pedro Damiano (d.1544), who correctly identified it as a losing opening (mainly due to 3.KtxP!..PxKt??, 4.Q-R5+ch..). B-Alt.
	White	Black
 1.	P-K4	P-K4
 2.	Kt-KB3	P-KB3?
