Black developed his king's knight to KB3(f6) contesting his Q4(d5) and controlling White's K4(e4), a move perhaps superior to 2..Kt-KB3.
White develops his Queen's Knight to QB3(c3) and counters Black's KKt influence on the centre. Black may reply with a "closed" 3..B-QKt5 half-pin.
