White's P-Q4(d4) challenge supported 4.P-K5, confident of equality in any immediate P exchange.
Black advances his own Queen's Pawn to Q4(d5) attacking White's KP in a lesser variation (usually favouring White) that can also arise from the French (compare knight positions). B-Alt.
