White advanced his KBP to KB4(f4) in a rare move no longer recommended in the modern age.
Black takes the opportunity to push his King's Pawn out to support a 3..P-Q4 advance against White's king's pawn, frees his KB to support his QBP and also enables 3..Q-KR5+ch. B-Alt.
