Black's QP push supported his QBP, freed his QB and halted 3.P-K5, for the Dragon (to free his KB).
White's QKtPawn attacks to drag Black off-centre. Introduced in the 1930s, the gambit is more difficult to meet than its original (2.P-QKt4) form but then it gives White less freedom to manoevre. W-Alt.
