THE ALEKHINE DEFENCE
White attacked Q5+KB5 and freed his (her) KB and Q diagonals, hoping to occupy the centre fully.
Black leaves the "Épine Dorsale" to set Alekhine's Defence, developing the King's Knight as a target, attacking White's KP to draw it forward. White must force Black's KKt to move again or else defend the KP in ways that may gain Black a tempo. First used in top play at the 1921 Budapest tournament. B-Alt.
