ChessOps - FAMOUS GAMES

Several past historical games have become famous for containing remarkable moves or strategies. They are usually "friendly games" rather than tournament or match games, and often described in textbooks for their model play. Complete games (with analysis of middlegame and ending strategies) are beyond the scope of this guide, but a few examples of famous short games have been included:

  • The Immortal Game: Anderssen-Kieseritzsy, London 1851
  • The Evergreen Game: Anderssen-Dufresne, Berlin 1852
  • The Opera Box Game: Morphy-Duke of Brunswick/Count Isouard, Paris 1858
  • The guide also includes a page detailing various kinds of early mating found in chess, with links to historical examples.
