PETROFF'S DEFENCE
The Cochrane Gambit

Black's QP attacked White's Kt to gain a tempo.
White's K5(e5) Knight removes Black's KBP on KB7(f7), forking Q+KR with a gambit of Scotsman John Cochrane (1798-1878) (a typical "Philidor sacrifice", here a Kt for two Ps and a strong centre) repopularised in the 1980s. Poss. dubious. W-Alt.
	White	Black

 2.	Kt-KB3	Kt-KB3
 3.	KtxP	P-Q3
 4.	KtxP!?
