VAN'T KRUYS OPENING
White's king's pawn push to K3(e3) invited Black to take the centre but supported a possible P-Q4 plan. Amsterdamer Maarten van't Kries (1811-85) liked the move's transpositional possibilities.
Black usually takes the opportunity to fill the vacant centre with his King's Pawn unopposed, freeing diagonals for his KB and queen while challenging for control of White's Q4(d4). B-Alt.
