White's King's Pawn opening push to K3(e3) is rarely played except as a transpositional device to reach other favoured lines. It is less commanding than 1.P-K4 for example (and blocks later QB deployment) although it was favoured by Maarten van't Kruijs (1811-85), winner of the 1878 Dutch Championship. W-Alt.
