THE MIESES OPENING (aka. Valencia Opg.)
White's Queen's Pawn opening push to Q3(d3) is rarely played except as a transpositional device to reach other favoured lines while avoiding most well-known opening variations. A sound but less commanding move than 1.P-Q4 for example, although this irregular opening was used by IGM Jacques Mieses (1869-1954) in a 1910 tournament. In Spain it is called the Valencia Opening. W-Alt.
