Black pushes his Q-Bishop's Pawn out one square, planning a Q-side fianchetto. The Queen's Indian has four main approach lines (this "west-wing" defence being one), and is usually reached by 2..P-K3, 3.Kt-KB3..P-QKt3 to limit White's early options for response. B-Alt.
